Type of burial. Shaft grave.

State of preservation. The grave was intact and well preserved although the burial vessel was broken.

Burial descriptions. The grave pit was rectangular in shape, about 1.4 m long on the E-W axis and 0.65 m wide. The side niche was carved in the western wall of the shaft. It measured 0.5 x 0.5 m. A quite big pot with a wide rim was placed on its side in the niche. Its rim opened into the shaft; consequently, it was blocked with vertically set bricks. Some fragments of the bricks have fallen inside the vessel. The pot is nearly complete, only a part of the bottom is missing. It was provided with a low rib below the rim, decorated with vertical incisions on the side of the rim and on the rim as well as with c. 2-cm-long incisions on the body below the rib. On the lowest part of the vessel, there are five horizontal and irregular grooves.

Human remains. The grave contained the remains of a 2-year-old child. The bones were quite well preserved. The child lay in anatomical order, on its left side, on the NE-SW axis with the head to the SW.

Animal remains. Absent.

Evidence of burial rituals. Absent.

Burial goods. The child was equipped with three small vessels, two of them miniature. Two miniature vessels (a pot with painted running zigzags and a jar with a painted neck with horizontal bands painted on the shoulders) stood inside the burial vessel, next to the child’s face. A pot decorated with painted horizontal stripes stood outside the vessel, next to its rim.

Human remains

An eroded but fairly complete skeleton of a 2-year-old child, mixed with many elements from a subadult animal. Most elements from the left upper extremity and many parts of the skull were missing. An initial phase of cribra orbitaliahas been observed in the left orbita  (HR_FIG.11).
